Pitchers in the game of baseball are masterful at throwing different variations of pitches.
Baseball pitchers throw fastballs such as a four-seam or two-seam fastball. Pitchers
throw breaking balls such as curveballs, sliders, or screwballs. Pitchers also throw
changeups such as the palm ball or the circle changeup. Much like baseball there are
many experiences and life can change up suddenly. What do you do when you are
faced with uncertainty? I don’t know about you, but I find life’s uncertainty frustrating
initially. No one usually cares for abrupt changes and uncertain futures. However,
uncertainty is something that we will have to deal with at various times in our lives. We
can deal with uncertainty without pulling our hair out by,
Knowing that all of life will not be revealed in one instance.
We often want the answers to life and the moments we will experience immediately.
However, as the prayer of Teilhard de Chardin suggests, “above all, trust in the slow
work of God.” When God moves slowly in seasons of uncertainty, it becomes tempting
to believe untruths about the nature of God. Allowing uncertainty to speak more loudly
than our faith can harm us. Uncertainty is like milk, and it has an expiration date. We
may not know everything about life or the moments we will experience before it
happens but we can trust that God is moving behind the scenes to produce what He
desires for us in our lives. Uncertainty doesn’t have to take our joy when we,
Pray every time we worry.
Prayer should be a daily practice, not only for emergencies. To take the practice of
prayer a step further, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually,
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Also, in
Philippians 4:5-6, Paul says, “The Lord is at hand, do not be anxious about anything,
but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made
known to God.” I’m learning that worrying will happen, but when I choose to breathe and
pray a short prayer, my problem may not immediately end, but I achieve some peace
and can cope with uncertainty differently. Uncertainty doesn’t have to harm our
friendships or relationships if we,
Authentically express our true feelings about the uncertainty we are experiencing.
Recently, I took the leap of faith, expressing myself and my uncertainty to some of my
friends. This time of sharing led to my friends also sharing, and it deepened our bond
and helped us to form more of the community together. Hiding our true feelings
surrounding uncertainty only frustrates us more. Uncertainty is a life challenge that
should be faced with others. There’s an African Proverb that says, “If you want to go
fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This is a helpful mindset when dealing
with uncertainty. When life is uncertain, we should remember that God loves us and is
with us no matter how slowly God moves. Don’t hide your feelings. Express them to
your trusted network. Remember, all of life will not be revealed in one instance. When
you worry, take a breath and pray, knowing that uncertainty has an expiration date. Now,
win the day!
